Bailey Rhodes has all the status symbols a young Manhattanite might want: a high-powered job, great friends, a nice apartment in a good neighborhood, and a boyfriend on the fast track to success. But when her mother has a stroke, everything seems to spiral out of control. Bailey rushes back to her hometown in Virginia to find her usually talkative mother nonresponsive and secretive. All her affection seems reserved for Bailey’s younger sister—who shows up pregnant and unwed. And in the middle of everything, Bailey’s two aunts, Bits and Bubbles, are coaching a cadre of contestants for the 64th Annual Miss Tidewater Butter Bean Pageant.
