The women of the local church ladies society in Maintown, Oregon, eagerly await the arrival of the new circuit-riding preacher--a bachelor, they've been told. To welcome him, they and their eligible daughters decide to make him a quilt. The project turns into a fierce competition as each young woman tries to outdo the other in creating a quilt block so exquisite that it--and she--will gain the attention of the young minister. But the "preacher" turns out to be anything but--merely a handsome opportunist. His humorous blunders and the young ladies' obvious attempts to snare him combine to make a delightful and poignant read. And the gentle reminder that God accomplishes His purposes--sometimes in spite of us--will warm readers' hearts.
