Reviewer Comments:

Valentin Jaus is a Darkyn lord who at one time had fallen in love, only to lose his love and his sword arm to another lord. Liling Harper is a girl on the run, trying to keep one step ahead of the Brethren. When she is photographed and placed on the front page of the daily newspaper she has to run again just when she had found some sense of security. This time she is on the run with Valentin and trying to hide her secrets. During their flight, Valentin realizes a lustful attraction to Liling and begins his game to dispel his lust.

While we do not read much of the relationship between the two as the story also focuses other members of the Darkyn and how they can find information on the Brethren and their experiments, for what end we are yet to find out. We do come to understand the connection between Valentin and Liling and its intensity. The overarching story does not detract from Valetin and Liling's relationship in any way.

This is the sixth book in this series and I did not feel I was missing any part of the story as Ms Viehl has skillfully entwined Valentin and Liling’s story with the overarching storyline. I liked the fact that although Valentin was a powerful Darkyn lord, he still had dents in his armor and major regrets over his lost love. In fact the manner in which this story ends means I really want to read the next book, and catch up on the first five!
